Biography

Luca Palmas, better known as WAVEBACK, was born in Sassari, Italy, in 1991. His first encounter with music happened at the age of six when his mother found work as a housekeeper on a large estate in northern Sardinia, owned by a countess. Luca often accompanied his mother to work, spending his evenings exploring the property, until one day he discovered a room full of musical instruments, including a piano. Driven by curiosity and boredom, he began to randomly play the keys, turning the waiting hours into a fun pastime.

The countess, noticing Luca’s enthusiasm, predicted shortly before her death that he would become a musician. After her death, Luca’s mother lost her job, interrupting those moments of contact with music. This bond was interrupted until, at the age of 14, his first entry into clubs ignited a passion that he would never abandon.

Fascinated by nightlife and electronic sounds, Luca began to explore the world of music production thanks to a classmate who provided him with a CD with the first versions of FL Studio. As a self-taught person, he began to practice and develop his production skills.

From 2005 to 2012, Luca experimented with various pseudonyms, publishing several tracks that allowed him to refine his style, making it recognizable but difficult to classify into a specific genre.

In 2012, he adopted the pseudonym Waveback Luke and began to produce minimalist tracks, heavily influenced by his mentor Boris Brejcha. In 2014, Brejcha himself asked him to remix one of his most famous tracks, “Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven”. However, not being satisfied with the final result, Boris decided not to publish the remix. This episode further motivated Luca to constantly improve the quality of his productions.

Waveback Luke’s first significant releases arrived towards the end of 2014, with tracks like “Energize”, which received widespread international support and was played by several DJs in clubs and festivals around the world. These songs allowed him to perform on three international tours in Brazil, touching cities like São Paulo, Curitiba, Brusque, Canoinhas, Balneário Camboriú, Joinville, São Francisco do Sul, Marechal Cândido Rondon, and later in Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Coffs Harbour), Sri Lanka (Colombo) and Egypt (Cairo).

In 2017, Luca decided to simplify his stage name to WAVEBACK, marking a turning point in his sound. Abandoning the previous minimal sounds, he paved the way for a style characterized by a mix of solid and powerful rhythms with immersive and cinematic atmospheres.
